The Binding Site, based in Birmingham, and Rugby-based Mediwatch UK Ltd., have both won awards MedilinkWM's highly competitive Medical Healthcare Awards, at the Council House in Birmingham. Both will go on to represent the West Midlands in MedilinkUK's national contest.
The Binding Site, won the Award for Innovation, and Mediwatch UK Ltd. won the Award for Export Achievement in MedilinkWM's highly competitive Medical Healthcare Awards, held at the Council House in Birmingham. Both will go on to represent the West Midlands in MedilinkUK's national contest in February.
At a glittering awards ceremony, the Binding Site won the Innovation Award, sponsored by Chapman Molony, for its development of Freelite, a technology to help monitor blood cancer using a unique immunoassay to diagnose and monitor multiple myeloma, a cancer of cells in the bone marrow.
Created to recognise the most impressive business achievements from the Midlands' thriving medical technology community, the awards are sponsored by Advantage West Midlands and supported by ADF Insurance. Awards sponsor Dr Anna Molony of Chapman Molony presented Paul Duncan, CEO, of the Binding Site with the prestigious award, which recognises businesses that have achieved exceptional research, innovation, business success, entrepreneurial flair and growth in the sector.
Mediwatch UK Ltd., which has recently opened offices in Florida, USA, has 70 dealers around the world and runs training sessions in Sao Paolo, Kuala Lumpur, Dubai and Australia, beat fierce competition to take top prize for Export Achievement. Their success has been achieved by exhibiting globally, taking part in UKTI sponsored trade missions and attending the Passport to Export programme, provided by the UKTI. Brian Mountford of UK Trade & investment presented Mediwatch Uk Ltd.'s Chief Operations Officer Colm Croskery with their award.
Both Paul Duncan and Colm Croskery agreed that "This is a wonderful recognition of the hard work, vision and dedication of our teams. We're very excited about going forward to the national awards and hopefully prove that the best businesses and inventions come from the West Midlands. I think the region's strong medical technology cluster has given us the right backing and a broad network so we've been able to access the support we need, and it's played a big part in our success so far."
MedilinkWM's CEO Tony Davis said: "The Medical Healthcare Awards have been a spectacular celebration of the innovation and enterprise that's on show in the West Midlands and it's great to see so many successful companies taking part this year. The standard has been the highest ever so it's an amazing achievement to win.
"It's testament to the hard work, passion and innovation of companies in this sector that so many important technologies are represented here, many of which now enable medical staff to treat paitents even more effectively - they really could help save lives. As a growing sector, medical and healthcare companies are attracting the best brains in the region, which was clear to us tonight as we saw the calibre of finalists and of course, the success of our winners."
