Renfrew Group International, a myM-link member has triumphed at the East Midlands Innovation Awards, scooping the award for Partnership with the NHS.

This year’s Medilink East Midlands Innovation Competition was held at Pride Park Stadium in Derby, and Renfrew Group International’s design development director Michael Phillips collected the prize, for the company’s development of Temporary Isolation Units.

Renfrew Group worked on a collaborative programme with frontline staff who were asked what they would like to help fight HCAIs. They identified that a there was a shortage of single bed side-rooms and that hand washing rates were too low. By designing a temporary side room that is quickly erected, the patient can be isolated from others in the ward thereby reducing infection spread.

NHS Innovation East Midlands sponsor representative Carl Edwards commented: “Renfrew Group has been working closely with NHS… which has involved considerable activity with clinical trials, patient perception studies, ergonomic studies and a programme of national road shows. RGi is now poised to add real value in the fight against infection.’’

Mike Phillips added: “Renfrew Group International worked with hundreds of frontline staff and doctors in generating solutions to this need and is proud to have helped develop this unique, exciting and pioneering equipment to help save lives and increase productivity in the NHS. The easy to clean, comfortable Isolation Unit not only should reduce spread by airbourne infection through air filters, but improves general hygiene and hand washing rates. With its built in hand wash station, and traffic lights to tell everyone that hands have been washed, the system is set to help drive down infections and reduce costs.”
