It's a life enhancement - here's how it all began...
My mobility scooter was too big to take into small shops and offices, but I want to be as self-reliant as possible, and I hate to rely on others for transport, so as usual, I went to the village shop on my scooter, and somehow managed to nudge the fruit and vegetable display and sent oranges and aubergines everywhere - much to the amusement of the other shoppers. Although everyone was very good about it, and I smiled and thanked them for their help in sorting out the mess, inside I was bursting with frustration. When I got home I thought 'I can't carry on like this. I have to find a way of getting into the shops and maneouvring without worrying about crashing into things.'
I realised what I needed was a rack I could attach to the back of my scooter so that I could carry my wheelchair with me. It was something of a Eureka! moment and I set about making my vision a reality. I thought there must be something available off-the-shelf but couldn't find anything anywhere.
I got a prototype made with the help of Remap, a charity that designs and manufactures one-offs for disabled people. I received so much interest that I set up a company, found a manufacturer, and I now sell all over the UK.
