The Asian Development Bank


The Asian Development Bank (ADB) operates in 44 developing member countries  in the Asia and Pacific region, with its Headquarters based in Manilla, Philippines. In 2007 the ADB approved total loan projects for US$10.1 billion, grant projects for US$672.7 million and technical assistance projects for US$243.4 million. There are many opportunities for UK firms to win business through the ADB, through the provision of civil works, the supply of goods and the provision of consulting services. UK firms can bid for ADB projects through working with firms based recipient countries as part od a Consortia, or individually of the UK firm has a presence in an ADB member country.

The work of the ADB is aimed at improving the welfare of the population in Asia and the Pacific, particularly the 1.9 billion who live on less than $2 a day. The ADB's lending operations are aimed at projects for the development of the following sectors:

  • agriculture and natural resources
  • governance (law, economic management, public policy)
  • transport, energy, finance and trade, social infrastructure (water, sewerage & waste management, urban development, health & nutrition, education)
  • gender and social development

The Aid-Funded Business Service is delighted to welcome two speakers from the ADB who will be visiting the UK on 25th & 26th September 2008. Senior Procurement Specialists, Mr Terry Woods (Consulting Services) and Mr Robert Rothery (Goods & Civil Works) will present the opportunities available through working with the ADB and how to win business. Both speakers will also be available the following day for one to one appointments (bookable in advance).
