14th Sep 2010 Celebration dinner at Birmingham Botanical Gardens for the launch of THE NEW OPTIMISTS with the BBC's David Shukman, Keith Richards & the Ben Markland Quartet Tuesday 14th September 2010 at 1930 for 2000 In the lovely surroundings of the Birmingham Botanical Gardens, this three-course dinner celebrates the publication of "The New Optimists"; "this most exhilarating of books" as Jenny Uglow describes it in her Foreword. Many of the scientist contributors will be joined by with the BBC Science Correspondent David Shukman who will be speaking, editor Keith Richards, Wellcome Image Award winner Spike Walker, broadcaster Sue Beardsmore, publisher Kate Cooper and her team . . . & the Ben Markland Quartet with singer Sara Colman who will be creating a composition about The New Optimists live under the direction of the diner audience. In addition, there will be exhibitions of the science research in the region, and of Spike Walker's stunning images — and the opportunity to go round the Botanical Gardens before the evening's celebration begins. (Sunset is at 7:26pm.) Diners receive a free copy of the book, plus more copies are available at the discounted rate of £10 (early Christmas presents?) on what will be a fun and very interesting evening.
